I have felt at times that my whole life has been a failure. I failed at
two marriages, failed to keep a steady job after the Air Force and Bible
College. Failed in ministry, at least what I thought I would be doing
in ministry. The list could go on.
Until a few years ago I would have continued on the path of failure. A few years ago God had me read Wild at heart and with my wife’s help and love God rescued my marriage. This began a turning point in my life and the journey I have been walking for the last 3 or 4 years has been glorious. God has shown me that most important part to this walk with him, that is the journey of our hearts. The Bible describes it as the core or center of our being. All of my failure and disappointments led me back who God really is and to my heart. The heart that God gave me. I have said this before the heart is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible. Sometimes we have to come to the end of ourselves to truly allow God to show us who we really are. Each of us is a creation of God’s that he has a plan for. Each of us has been chosen to walk the journey with God that he has for us.
Gary Barkalow in his new book titled Its your Call, put it this way. "If you know God personally, through the work of and belief in Jesus Christ then you have the nature of God in you. If you have God’s nature in you then you hear the call of eternity, transcendence, meaning, and the unique desires that have been placed in your own heart. Only you can hear them."
He also said this "Possessing the ability to do what pleases him(God) is about becoming the men and women who can handle the weightiness of their lives and the great mission they have been given." You see each of us has a mission that God wants us to accomplish with his help. To accomplish this mission we will be tested and tried through failure and other life situations that will either drive us to God or away from him. This is why I am thankful for my failures because they have driven me to God and his heart for me. He has shown me alot of what is in my heart also for him. This is all about our journey of walking with God. Where are you today? Where has failure entered your journey is it failure at work, failure to find a job, failure at school, home. We are in need of a new interpretation of those failures.
Soren Kierkegaard a Danish theologian and philosopher said this: “Life can only be understood backwards, lived forward.”
How have you looked at your failures to this point? Do they drive you to depression, anger, disappointment? God has a different view for us to see. We must have the eyes of our hearts opened to see the unseen, to see what these failures look like through the eyes of God. For nothing in your life is a random happening, God is intimately involved in all we do. At work, at home, at Church, at play. Do you believe that? God is concerned about all that goes on in our lives. He has a purpose and that purpose will be revealed to you. But it takes time and perseverance to find it. And yet there will also still be mystery in our walk with God. For we will not know the fulness of all things until we get to heaven.
